BEHIND THE MUSIC OF ERICK IBARRA

Erick Ibarra is a guitarist from Venezuela. From a young age, he was inclined to music. He started playing acoustic guitar at age 17. Following his passion for the guitar he studied at some of the most well know music conservatories in Venezuela developing his technical musical skills and theoretical knowledge, achieving the next level of success. Later he became a performer with the guitar orchestra from the Simon Bolivar music conservatory.

Erick Ibarra was under the tutelage of the master percussionist Julio Cegarra, who was one of the founding members of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Venezuela.  Additionally, Erick pursued classical guitar studies with the renowned maestro Ignacio Ornés, a pupil of acclaimed guitarists Antonio Lauro, Pepe Romero, and Celín Romero in California.

Erick pursued studies under his tutor, guitarist Pablo Mendoza, one of the great exponents of electric guitar in South America, recognized for his stage collaborations with Joe Satriani and Paul Gilbert.  Through these influential connections and experiences, Erick Ibarra's musical path has been shaped by the best in the industry.

Beyond the instrument

Erick's accomplishments extend beyond his musical expertise. He has authored several books on guitars, widely available in major online bookstores like Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

His literary contributions include titles such as "The Guitar in Venezuela During the 19th Century," shedding light on the instrument's historical significance. Additionally, his work "Catalog of Works for the Guitar in Venezuela, 19th Century" serves as a valuable resource for enthusiasts and scholars alike. In a delightful collaboration with his sister, Erick also co-authored a children's book titled "Getting to Know a Guitar," designed to introduce young readers to the captivating world of this beloved instrument. His latest book "Orquesta de Guitarras del Conservatorio Simon Bolivar" tells the story of the guitar orchestra he was part of.

Through his written works, Erick's passion for guitars extends beyond performance, sharing his knowledge and love for music with a broader audience.

Erick's dedication to music extends beyond being an artist. As a clinician, he has conducted workshops on guitar basics, intermediate, and advanced techniques. He has taught guitar to both children and adults in low-income communities, providing free lessons where music can open doors for those in need.

These workshops have given participants the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience in North Texas at the conclusion of the workshop. Erick also pioneered the first music program for the FWPL (Fort Worth Public Library), enabling individuals from diverse communities to learn how to play the guitar.

He led the MBK band, a band conformed by children and adults who play acoustic and electric guitar who were taught by him. Erick also collaborated with the ESTR band.

The MBK band originally started with string instruments such as guitars and later incorporated percussion instruments and strings, creating an ensemble of musicians.

Additionally, he has performed many occasions in the US in North Texas and Venezuela. Listen to some of the music he plays. Click below.
